UCLA-NUS EMBA

(Helen)

UCLA-NUS EMBA

UCLA-NUS EMBA
Finding a Fast Track to Global Growth in an Era of Intense Competition
We are living through a period of profound business transformation. For entrepreneurs like Chen Ying (Helen) who benefited from decades of rapid economic expansion in China, past success no longer guarantees future resilience. Domestic markets have grown crowded. Competitive pressure is relentless. “Going global” is no longer optional; it has become a strategic imperative. At the same time, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are reshaping how companies operate, compete, and scale. For leaders navigating this complexity, the real question is not whether change is needed, but how to build the capability to lead it.

Chen Ying (Helen)

Chen Ying (Helen), began her career in a state-owned enterprise. Then she into RFID, and built a recognized presence in a specialized niche.
For Chen Ying (Helen) , that answer came in the form of a structured global learning platform: the UCLA-NUS EMBA.
A Strategic Crossroad
From Traditional Industries to Digital Transformation
Chen Ying (Helen) describes herself as part of “China’s most fortunate generation.” She began her career in a state-owned enterprise before moving into a multinational corporation during a period of strong economic expansion. A decade in Shenzhen gave her both operational discipline and exposure to international management standards. She later returned to Shanghai to launch her own company in clean room design and construction, successfully capturing growth opportunities driven by the semiconductor boom.
Never content to stay in her comfort zone, Helen pivoted again nine years ago, this time into RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), focusing on supply chain digital transformation. Through experimentation and persistence, she built a recognized presence in a specialized niche.
But as her business matured, so did the pressure. “The Chinese market is highly competitive and increasingly saturated,” she reflects. “Going overseas became inevitable. The challenge was: Where should we go? How do we assess risks? How do we make structured decisions instead of relying on instinct?”
A study visit to Singapore became a turning point. During a campus visit to NUS, she had a realization, “Singapore is Asia’s gateway. Studying here would be one of the fastest ways to upgrade myself and rethink our global strategy.” That insight led her to apply to and enroll in the UCLA-NUS EMBA.

A Cognitive Leap
What Did She Truly Gain from the Program?
After enrolling, the intensive and diverse learning experience deeply integrated with her business development, bringing immediate impact.
Four-Country Immersive Modules: Building Comparative Market Perspectives
The UCLA-NUS EMBA’s modular structure spans Singapore, the United States, China, and India over 15 months. For Helen, the most transformative outcome was not a single market insight.
“It wasn’t about identifying one opportunity,” she explains. “It was about learning how to compare different market logic.” Instead of relying solely on past experiences, she began making decisions through structured cross-market comparison. That shift fundamentally reshaped how she approaches international expansion.

From “Embracing AI” to “Mastering AI”: A Technological Mindset Shift
Like many executives, Chen Ying (Helen) had long spoken about “embracing AI.” Yet practical implementation remained incremental. The UCLA-NUS EMBA accelerated that shift. “My biggest improvement has been in applying AI,” she shares. “I’m learning something new every day.”
Exchanges with peers from diverse industries exposed her to real use cases across sectors. AI moved from being a conceptual ambition to a practical management tool. Today, she is not simply adopting technology, she is leading digital transformation initiatives within her organization.
A Trusted Global Network : Long-Term Capital for Global Expansion
Beyond curriculum, the UCLA-NUS EMBA connects participants to the global alumni networks of both NUS and UCLA Anderson. “For companies expanding globally, access and trust are critical,” Chen Ying (Helen) notes. “Through the alumni network, we can connect to the right people much more efficiently.”
Equally important was the intellectual diversity of her cohort. Learning how peers navigated uncertainty including pandemic disruptions and market shifts provided practical lessons in resilience and strategic repositioning. “When the environment cannot be changed, how do we adapt ourselves and redefine our company’s positioning?” That question continues to guide her leadership.

★
Why UCLA-NUS EMBA?
★
As companies enter a global growth phase, intuition alone is no longer enough. Leaders require structured frameworks, international exposure, and strong networks. For Helen, the UCLA-NUS EMBA stood out for three reasons:
Integration of Eastern and Western management perspectives
The program bridges global strategy with Asia-Pacific depth, enabling leaders to think across economic systems rather than within a single market mindset.
Immersive, high-intensity modular learning
Participants complete core modules across four major economies within 15 months, engaging directly with diverse business ecosystems.
Expanded global pathways
Through UCLA Anderson’s global platform, the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), and NUS Business School exchanges, students gain access to leading institutions worldwide.

Equip Your Global Compass
Helen’s journey reflects a broader transition among today’s entrepreneurs and senior leaders:
From chasing opportunities to building decision frameworks
From relying on experience to developing comparative global insight
From using technology to leading transformation
The UCLA-NUS EMBA does not provide a fixed roadmap. Instead, it equips leaders with a global compass, the ability to interpret complexity, compare markets, and act with clarity.
★
Who Should Apply?
★
Entrepreneurs, CEOs, General Managers, business owners, and next-generation family business leaders
Senior executives responsible for regional or global operations
Professionals with more than 10 years of management experience
